I think this is Japanese...Any ideas? I know it's an antique but not sure how old. It has been passed down in my family. Don't know much about it. If anyone can tell me anything about it, that would be great!

I think this set probably dates from the 1960's and was made in Taiwan or China not Japan. There are a lot of very similar sets out there, just google chinese chess set or something similar.
Having said all that the quality is good, it is a nice looking set and would look great displayed on a coffee table!
