Victorian Art Glass Whimsy? What is this?

I was told that this is a Victorian French art glass whimsy. I need more opinions. It measures H 5 1/2" with a shaped marble base 4 1/4" x 3 1/4". The looping bronze wire connects thru the marble base. I think the glass "berry" is white opaline with a green stem. Two purple glass "buds" are part of the looping bronze wire , held by filigree caps. Did this object have a purpose other than beautiful decoration? I guess it cold be a ring holder, etc. Would anyone know the maker? Thank you for your time!
