Beautiful, delicate vase acquired in Japan of unknown origin.

This beautiful vase was acquired at a small auction many years ago. The seller said it was purchased in Japan but didn't know the origin or maker.

I would appreciate any thoughts and opinions on this piece- it's possible origin or maker or even what the markings on it are.

It is a very delicate vase with beautiful gold relief markings of birds and flowers. It is approximately 11 1/2 inches tall.
