Given to me & don't know much but it's been in family 50 years or more. Can u help? I think u put water in it and cups on top. How old?

These look like Bohemian cut-to-clear lead crystal. Not really possible to give an accurate date as to the age. They are definitely vintage pieces since they have been in your family for at least 50 years.
I don't recommend putting the glass on top of the decanter because you run the risk of damaging them. The decanter should have a matching crystal stopper.
