Oriental Lamps

I found these at a garage sale last year when I was looking for a baby bed for our daughter. They are a black lacquer over metal base with mother of pearl inlays. The base is only marked in gold ink ( Special Metal Base) with no makers marks. The Lady said they were her mothers and that her mother got them sometime in the 1940's. I have looked online but cannot find anything like them or about them. Any help solving this mystery will be helpful. I only paid $10 for the pair with the oriental shades.
