    In 1909 when this postcard was sent, women seemed much more poised and graceful than they are now. That's is my opinion anyway.

      I was wondering the same thing. Could it be a plate with different paint colors on it. Like maybe he's going to paint her portrait.

      Yes, lovely lady on a pedestal, as women were to be treated back then. They were the "delicate" gender, and were to be treated as such.
      That is a palate in his hand with paints and a paint brush...she is sitting for her portrait to be painted. Lovely!

      You are correct, BakerCindy, women were more poised and gracious, genteel, mannerly, modest, much different than today. Everyone has changed with the times, for the better or worse.
