From Early 20th Harrach Aristocratic Glass Management To The Modern Czech Republic Novosad & Sons 1940s-1990s

Since I have been focusing on the 20th deco era for Harrach during 1930s, it was a small step to proceed with the 1940s and then follow into the 1990s because the Novosad & sons enterprise in Harrachov has chosen to find their inspiration from previous designs and designers, while adopting the same glass/crystal production process, and very fine fabrication with molds and hand crafted elements.

I had some pieces by Harrach in my collection but all I knew about them was that their thin walled crystal was superb, with a finished look, no cut rims found here.

This week I ventured into their recent Novosad selections, I found a stem decorated candleholder and some wine glasses with this twisted style, combining 2 shade honey amber and clear shown here, as well as pale blue, amethyst and green with clear rwisted stem.

The large book about Harrach's historical glass production, does have an interesting last chapter, that covers the 40s to their Crystalex association during the Soviet block years. I think that today's Crystalex glass production since 1990s has kept some of the Harrachov glass designs and molds, there is much similarity noted with some pieces.

Another aspect to the recent collections and decorative pieces, is that the emphasis is on great quality utilitarian items, the number of vases, bowls etc. is minimal.
