As usual with this type of item 1942 does not necessarily mean it was made in 1942. More likely 1942 was the first year it was made. Hard to say when it was used as these were still being issued in Korea as they made a few million or so of these. It was made by AGM Co aka Aluminum Goods Manufacturing Co. This probably stainless steel because aluminum was needed for aircraft So stainless steel was used instead.
The design is clever as one part can be used as frying pan or to heat rations while the other is the plate. Nice for people like me who don't like their food to touch the other food. Depending on the food. Comes with knife, fork and spoon. I'll have to try and cook up some beanie weenies in it.
