Purchased this item in Switzerland about 15 years ago at an antique store in the middle of no where! The knife is very heavy and well made. The markings - I'm assuming - are from the Blacksmith who made it??
a similar design in the uk is called a bill hook,its generally used for hedge laying,older ones like this usually blacksmith made and usually well made.
