Wood Chairs metal strapping | Collectors Weekly

I received this set of chairs from my grandparents. One of them has springs for rocking/bouncing metal strapping with "brass?" decorative metal on sides and around bottom of footing. Can I repair the leg myself or would I be ruining something that needs professional restoration? I know nothing about the chairs and would love too. Name of maker, approximate age anything.
