Cloisonné, also called "copper body and wire inlaid Enamel", has a long standing history of serveral hundred years. It was very popular as far back as in the years of the reign of Emperoro Chingtal of the Ming dynasty. Because the technique was already well developed plus the fact that blue enamel was chiefly used, it was termed in Chinese "Chingtal Blue".
The manufacture of cloisonné ware requires for rather elaborate and complicated processes in nature, namely; base-hammering, copper-wire curving, soldering, enamel-filling, enamelfiring, polishing, gilding and so on.
Although I always post on CW items of my passion; antique jewelry I could not resist posting this cloisonné vase.
Already a lot of years ago we took a holiday trip to China and we were given the opportunity to visit a Cloisonné factory to see how this is made in all stages. There I bought this wonderful cloisonné on copper vase. I choose this one because of the wonderful shades of several green, black gold (the copper) and a bit of turkoois. Furthermore I bought to be right to my passion a cloisonné fish pendant I earlier publish here on CW. I'll hope you like this vase as I do.
